Educational goals:
The course is introductory in nature and its aim is to familiarise students with some of the fundamental concepts of the sociology of cultural and communication processes.
Course contents:
The following topics will be covered: culture and society; the symbolic dimension to social life; culture and communication; the culture industry; consumer goods as channels for communication; the globalisation of culture; the ritual dimension to culture; the role of humour in human communication.
