Obiettivi formativi:
Educational goals:		 Il corso si propone di guidare gli studenti alla comprensione dell'economia dell'Unione Europea studiando le istituzioni che gestiscono la politica monetaria e fiscale, gli strumenti di politica economica, il loro funzionamento e il loro effetto sulle economie dei paesi membri. A tal fine si studieranno i principali aspetti teorici ed empirici relativi alle tappe fondamentali del processo di integrazione e i cambiamenti che la recente crisi finanziaria ed economica ha imposto alla governance e alle politiche dell'Unione Europea.
Guide the students to understand the economics of the European Union by learning the working of the main institutions that govern the monetary and fiscal policy decisions, the policy instruments, their functioning and their effects on the economics of the member countries. This will be achieved by focusing on the theory and on the empirical aspects of the fundamental steps of the integration process and the changes that the recent financial and economic crisis determined to the economic governance and to the policies of Europe.
Contenuto del corso:
Course contents:		 ? Gli obiettivi della politica economica europea. ? Perché partecipare a un'unione monetaria? Un'analisi costi-benefici. ? Come si è giunti all'UME? Le tappe fondamentali del processo di integrazione europea. ? Integrazione economica e istituzioni sovranazionali. Le istituzioni che governano e disciplinano la politica economica europea. ? La politica monetaria e la BCE. ? La politica fiscale e il Patto di Stabilità e Crescita. ? La gestione della politica economica europea nella grande recessione.
? The objectives of the European economic policy. ? Why taking part in a monetary union? A cost-benefit analysis. ? How did we get to the European Monetary Union (EMU)? Empirical and theoretical aspects of the fundamental steps of the European integration process. ? Economic integration and supra-national institutions. The institutions that govern the European economic policy. ? Monetary policy and the ECB. ? Fiscal policy and the Growth and Stability Pact. ? The governance of the European economy in the great recession.
