To specify forms and esthetic reasons at the origins of the "fragment" form. What are the factors explaining why the fragment suddenly appeared in art and literature?
Contenuto del corso:
Course contents:
"The Invention of the Fragment". After a general introduction aimed at explaining why the fragment, if every conceived in the esthetics of antiquity, represented the height of imperfection, the course focuses on a selection of 18th- and 19th-century works which testify to the progressive emergence of a new perception of the "I", and thus its new expressive style which is the fragment: from the lines ripped from the tragic thought of Hoelderlin to the seismic quakes and telluric shocks to sensible meaning in the works of H. von Kleist, up to the eruptions of the void in the writing of Buechner, text analysis emonstrates how the fragment, with ever deeper awareness, emerges as the only possible style to express the secret of the modern "I" in a world by now deprived of any unifying "ratio".
