Il western classico.
Considerato il genere hollywoodiano per eccellenza, già presente nell'epoca pionieristica del cinema, il western ha avuto una produzione ampia all'epoca del muto e ha raggiiunto l'orizzonte del mito tra gli anni Quaranta e gli anni Sessanta. Molti importanti registi si sono confrontati con il genere, rielaborando i molti aspetti dello scenario western: dal mito della frontiera a quello della colonizzazione, dagli orizzonti sconfinati di una terra grande e selvaggia alla schietta e spesso brutale tenacia degli uomini che vi si insediavano. Della vasta produzione vengono presentati dieci film considerati tra i più rappresentativi del genere.

Ombre rosse (1939), Duello al sole (1946), Il fiume rosso (1948), Il tesoro della Sierra Madre (1948), Là dove scende il fiume (1951), Mezzogiorno di fuoco (1952), Rancho Notorius (1952), Il cavaliere della valle solitaria (1953), Johnny Guitar (1954), Quel treno per Yuma (1957).
The western classic. Considered as the Hollywood genre par excellence, and part of the pioneering period of cimena, the western was widely produced during the age of silent movies and had attained the status of a myth in the period between the 1940s and the 1960s. Many important directors engaged with this genre, reworking many aspects of the western scenario: from the myth of the frontier to that of colonisation, from the boundless horizons of a vast and wild land to the frank and often brutal tendencies of the men who inhabited it. From this vast field, the course will consider only some of the works most representative of the genre. The films in the programme are: Stagecoach (1939), Duel in the Sun (1946), Red River (1948), The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), Bend of the River (1951), High Noon (1952), Rancho Notorious (1952), Shane (1953), Johnny Guitar (1954), 3:10 to Yuma (1957)
