Il corso si propone di indagare la "Poesia Metafisica" come fenomeno centrale dell'immaginario e della cultura del Seicento Inglese.A tal fine si condurrą uno studio delle implicazioni filosofiche, teologiche, estetiche, nonchč della peculiaritą figurale e retorica di opere di J. Donne, G. Herbert, R. Crashaw, H. Vaughan, A. Marvell, T. Traherne. Si esaminerą inoltre la rivalutazione modernista della "Poesia Metafisica" nei testi critici di T.S. Eliot.
The couse aims to investigate "Metaphysical Poetry" as a key phenomenon of the imaginary of Seventheenth-Century English Culture, as well as its revaluation in Modernist culture, with specific reference to T.S. Eliot's critical works. For this purpose the philosophical, theological, aesthetic implications of these texts will be explored, as well as the figurative and rhetorical characteristics of the works of: J. Donne, G. Herbert, R. Crashaw, A. Marvell, H. Vaughan, T. Traherne.
