Prerequisites:
Firm understanding of the grammar and syntax of the Russian language acquired during the three-year degree course.
Educational goals:
To provide the theoretical and practical bases for translation, not only to acquire the mechanical ability to translate from language A into language B, but also the awareness of the possibilities or "impossibilities" of the two languages and the function of the translator both as an intermediary and as a creator "under supervision".
Course contents:
Explanation and discussion of the basic principles of translation as a profession. Exercises on the forms less widely covered in grammar and syntax texts, but common in the spoken language and in Russian idiomatic expressions, all of which will be studied in comparison with analagous forms in Italian.
