Course contents:
World Englishes. Il corso si prefigge di illustrare i tratti fondamentali, sul piano lessicale, fonetico e grammaticale, delle principali varietà diatopiche dell'inglese contemporaneo. L'analisi dei tratti esaminati sarà condotta su testi autentici, scritti e parlati.
World Englishes. The course will illustrate the fundamental characteristics, on a lexical, phonetic and grammatical level, of the main diatopic varieties of contemporary English. The analysis of these elements will be carried out on original written or oral texts.

Prova orale: lettura e commento in lingua inglese di 15 articoli preparati dallo studente, tratti da almeno tre dei seguenti periodici: Newsweek, National Geographic, Life, The Economist, The International Herald Tribune, The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, Time; colloquio con il docente sui temi affrontati nell'ambito del corso ufficiale. Il superamento della prova scritta è condizione indispensabile per essere ammessi all'orale, che deve essere sostenuto entro i 18 mesi successivi. Gli studenti in possesso di certificazioni esterne sono invitati a chiederne il riconoscimento alla Segreteria studenti; il relativo credito formativo esonera l'interessato dalle prime due parti della prova scritta (test grammaticale/lessicale e listening comprehension) e dalla prima parte dell'orale.
Oral exam: reading and discussion in English of 15 articles chosen by the student from at least three of the following magazines/papers: Newsweek, National Geographic, Life, The Economist, The International Herald Tribune, The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, Time; interview with the professor on the topics dealt with in the classes. Students are allowed to take the oral exam ONLY after passing the written exam; the oral exam should be taken in any case within 18 months after passing the written exam. Students with international language certifications are warmly invited to get in touch with the Student Registrar's Office to have them recognised; students will thus obtain university credits and be exempt from taking the written exam and the first part of the oral exam.
