Prerequisites:
It's advisable, but not compulsory, that students take an exam in Linguistics before attending this course.
Educational goals:
To learn the contents listed below; to understand the methodological problems related to the interpretation of the sources and the process of interaction of different traditions.
Course contents:
"Language, Culture and Literature in Medieval England". From the Germanic linguistic and cultural unity to the characteristic of each single nationality. The origins of English culture and its peculiarities confronted with other Germanic traditions and with the Latin-Christian world. Reading of some short prose and poetry in Italian translation.

The 1 A module is a basic module which can be chosen as alternative to module 2 A. For students with old curricula, it is the first part of the two parts of the annual exam (which should be completed chosing module 1 B or 2 B). Non-attending students will be given a specific bibliography which will be available on the Internet and at the English Department from September (in any case, students are advised to get in touch with the professor).
