Contenuto del corso:
Course contents:		 Titolo del corso: La chimica dell'amore. Le affinità elettive di Goethe. Nel corso si inquadrerà l'opera di Goethe nel transito tra '700 e '800, rilevando quali sono gli interessi naturalistici che conducono Goethe a concepire l'unico romanzo in cui il romanticismo, nella sua valenza negativa, viene affrontato dall'autore. Il discorso si allargherà naturalmente a riferimenti ad altre opere goethiane e ai dibattiti tra fautori della difesa dell'antichità classica e interpreti dell'immaginario romantico.
Title of the course: The Chemistry of Love. Goethe's "Elective Affinities". The course will focus on Goethe's works in their transit from the 18th and the 19th Century by underlying the author's naturalistic interests that led to the elaboration of the one and only novel where the negative drive of Romanticism was faced by Goethe. The course will also deal with other Goethe's works while shading light on the debate between fosterers of classic antiquity and interpreters of romantic imagination.

 Lo studente dovrà saper inquadrare l'opera di Goethe nel suo periodo storico, interpretando l'influenza dei suoi studi sulla natura e sull'antropologia umana in relazione alle dinamiche del testo.
An addition bibliography will be announced during the course (max. 2 essays) Students should frame Goethe's work in its historical and cultural period and be aware of the influence of the author's studies on nature and human anthropology on the dynamic of the novel. Students will be asked to answer specific questions on the novel and with general respect to its historical literary period.

Other information:		 Durante il corso saranno date indicazioni bibliografiche per un paio di articoli a commento della materia trattata. I frequentanti e i non frequentanti dovranno adottare l'opera di Goethe nell'edizione indicata nel programma. In caso di non reperibilità di questa edizione è ammessa in alternativa quella Einaudi del 2007. I non frequentanti devono informarsi su eventuali materiali aggiuntivi, previsti dal corso, nella misura di massimo due articoli.

Not attending student are kindly requested to contact the lecturer in order to get integrative references (max. 2 essays). Erasmus students are kindly requested to contact the lecturer.
